Four projects selected at the InnovatorLab, Falck Renewables’ first internal innovation program

Milan, Italy, 21 July 2022 – Earlier this year Falck Renewables launched the InnovatorLab, its first internal innovation program, promoting innovative ideas and new perspectives from within the company in collaboration with leading corporate venture builder WhatAVenture.

The Innovation awards ceremony was held in Milan on 19th July and four innovative projects were selected and moved forward into the next phase of the implementation of ideas: two projects supporting the Group’s trading and dispatching activities, an idea in the area of smart energy management and flexibility, and a project related to the photovoltaic market.

One of the above ideas also received a special mention as the most innovative project, because of the way it would gather information from the markets. The prize for this amazing creation was all of the team won a trip to the Web Summit 2022 in Lisbon to benefit from networking and new learning opportunities.

The InnovatorLab initiative gives Falck Renewables’ employees worldwide the opportunity and resources to turn their ideas into action, while developing their careers and tackling real-life challenges.

Since the start of the project last May, Falck Renewables offered participants in the InnovatorLab specific training through creative workshops, and mentorship to support their innovation journey. Through InnovatorLab the Falck Renewables’ employees can leverage their expertise and interests, as well as learning more about innovative methods and innovation, actively collaborating with colleagues expanding their network, and ultimately, spending time working on a project together.

A series of in-person events hosted in Milan, Madrid, and London, also took place where employees were provided with support to express, refine, and submit their ideas.

“The InnovatorLab brings space and consideration for ideas, it creates opportunities and is a real incentive to boost innovation in a collaborative environment, full of energy and interesting sparks from colleagues worldwide”, said Gilles Vache, a participant from France.

Out of 61 ideas proposed by employees from all over the world with different backgrounds, roles, and positions, five ideas were selected to move into a new phase of training, the PitchLab. The PitchLab gave the five finalists the chance to learn how to best pitch their idea, engaging with the jury and presenting it at the final pitch event in Milan, which resulted in awards to the four winners.

The four winning teams now have the opportunity to work on implementing their ideas through Falck Renewables’ internal support and development framework as well as seeking potential external collaboration partners such as start-ups and universities.

Our success as a company is the result of the talent, knowledge, collaboration, and dedication of our staff. We have always believed in our colleagues’ ability to make a difference and to enable the energy transition. The InnovatorLab is a clear demonstration of this conviction: who better than our employees to bring innovative ideas to improve our business and contribute to tackling global challenges”, said Toni Volpe, CEO of Falck Renewables.
