Falck Renewables officially opens its Åliden and Brattmyrliden wind farms in Sweden together with the local community
Milan, Italy, 29 September 2022 – Falck Renewables officially opens its wind farms in Åliden and Brattmyrliden, Sweden, with community benefit schemes agreed with local associations to develop local projects.
Brattmyrliden Wind Farm (74.1 MW), located near the town of Trehörningsjö, in the municipality of Örnsköldsvik, came into commercial operation in June 2021 while Åliden Wind Farm (46.8 MW) in Vasternorrland reached commercial operation in December 2019.
At yesterday’s ceremony in Långtjärn (Northeast Sweden) – postponed for safety reasons due to the pandemic – local representatives and associations joined Falck Renewables in celebrating the official opening of the two wind farms.
“We are delighted to officially celebrate our first two wind farms in Sweden. Without the support of local communities, developments like these would not be possible and it is our great pleasure to be able to share the value created by the wind farms with them. Several local companies were involved in the development and construction of the wind farms and funding has already benefited a wide range of community projects which are greatly enjoyed by everyone who uses them”, said Christian Stöttrup-Andersen, Head of Construction Onshore at Falck Renewables.
In line with Falck Renewables’ mission of creating shared value with the local communities in the areas where it operates, part of the proceeds generated by the two wind farms are devoted to local community benefit schemes, run in Brattmyrliden by Brattmyrlidens Intresseförening and in Åliden by Trehörningsjö Intresseförening.
Both community benefit schemes support local projects, selected by the members of the associations, in areas such as rural development, education, environment and recreation. To date, the associations have delivered more than ten projects in the area
[1], such as the renovation of public swimming facilities including an accessible floating bathing jetty, new windows for the local Citizens House, renovation of the chimney at local cottage, a new barbecue site at the local lake, and a reinforcement of a small bridge between the North and South Nordsjö lakes.
Falck Renewables has also been running its Student Support Scheme for Sustainable Energy Studies in Sweden for the past three years. In line with Falck Renewables’ commitment to provide as much support as possible to the development of professional young people in the field of sustainable and renewable energy, the scheme is open to students and those keen to upskill and reskill who live in a 500 km radius around Åliden and Brattmyrliden Wind Farms. The successful applicant to the 2022 Student Support Scheme will receive funding to cover expenses related to travel and commuting costs, training materials, internet connections and equipment.
Yesterday’s celebration included a traditional Swedish fishing event with local fishing associations where char were released into the Storkvarnsten, Önskasjön, Lidtjärn and Långtjärn lakes close to the wind farms.
Lars Strömgren, representative of the Brattmyrliden and the fishing associations, said: “We are very happy today, that together with Falck Renewables we can support the local fishing associations, and the quality fish that have been used to restock the lakes will bring much joy to the community in the coming years.”
